Sterling Director
A recent Class of 2007 graduate from the State University of New York at New Paltz, Candi Sterling, 22, holds a Bachelor
of Arts in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with a concentration in performance. A freelance journalist, actor
and director, her professional work experience includes playing the role of The Fairy Godmother in the 2006 Holiday production
of Cinderella (Half Moon Theatre Company), and assisting in the production of the WABC-TV Channel 7 Eyewitness
News segment, 7 On Your Side (Summer 2007.)
An alumna of Sigma Delta Tau National Sorority, she is a frequent pageant competitor, and currently the reigning 2008
Miss Queen for the Miss Empire Royalty Pageant system. In between pageant appearances, participating in community service
and charity events is a high priority. Born in Montego Bay Jamaica, she grew up on Long Island and now leads a whirlwind town
and country lifestyle, splitting time between New York City and the Hudson Valley. In Manhattan, she is
a Special Projects Assistant and Seminar Coordinator for GMAC Real Estate, International Properties Group.
Candi believes Lorraine Hansbury’s A Raisin in the Sun is not only a timeless dramatic work of art,
but also a beautifully crafted journalistic piece that captures the Black experience of that time. She is elated to be the
director of such an extraordinary show.

 Ovella Snow(Ruth) has been acting since she was in junior high. She graduated from Russell Sage College in 2003 with
a degree in theater and communications and since then she has been working in such theaters as Snow Camp Outdoor Theater in
Snow Camp, NC, Steamer 10, Capital Repertory Theater, Confetti Stage, Park Playhouse, and the Palace Theater in Albany,
NY,Stageworks Theater in Hudson, NY, and Theatre IV in Richmond, VA. Her acting roles include playing a Quaker, Bar Wench,
and Party Guest in Sword of Peace, Chloe and Aggie in Pathway to Freedom, the Dormouse in Alice in Wonderland, Random
Slave in Big River, Hawk in Birds, Mary, Random Slave, and Harriet's mother in Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad,
Haughty Obabia in Bushwa, and Card Soldier 1 in Alice in Wonderland, and doing a mock trial for the Public Defenders Association
playing the rape victim Marilyn Miller. She also does tech work and backstage work as well. She acted as assistant stage
manager for Medea in Jerusalem, Syncopation, Looking Over the President's Shoulder, and Grease. She did run crew for You
Can't Take it With You, 8 Track: Sounds of the 70's, Metamorphosis, and was on wardrobe crew for Chicago. Ovella is
so proud to be a part of this wonderful production and to have her first lead in a show ever. It's a dream come
true! She would like to thank her fiance Ed and her family for all their love and support. This show and this leading role
she has is dedicated to her father John T. Snow. "Thank you for everything and for always supporting me. You made me
the person I am today and I love and miss you very much. Tonight's performance is all for you." Enjoy the show!!!!

Soyal Smalls is a sophomore in the SUNY New Paltz Theatre Program. Soyal started working on a TV pilot called “The Jelly
Bean Sprouts” when she was in first grade. When she was 10 she worked with New Day Repertory in “Our
Man from Georgia,” and again recently as Veronica in “Valley Song” by Athol Fugard. At 16 she had the honor
of spending the summer working with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. She has appeared in many High
School some having been All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, Joseph and the Amazing Technocolor Dream Coat,
Les Miserable, and You Can’t Take it With You. Some of her College
productions have included, The Good Doctor, Museum,Caucasian Chalk Circle and Urinetown. Soyal
has also worked with the Half Moon Theatre in Spain and Cinderella as one of the Step Sisters. She would like
to give thanks the rest of the cast and crew, her family and her friends for being the great support they are.

A graduate of the Drama Program and Fashion Design
elective at Manhattan's High School of Fashion Industries, and a current Theatre Arts and Journalism Student
at the State University of New York at New Paltz, Bilysse Buitrago makes her debut in Passing the Torch Through the
Arts' rendition of A Raisin in the Sun. Having background in both the on and off-stage aspects of Theatre, Ms. Buitrago brings her theatrical skills into her portrayal of Lorraine Hansberry's Beneatha. Buitrago
would like to thank first and foremost, God, her mother, her fellow cast members and everyone who had a hand in pulling
together this wonderful production. She would like to thank you for joining her in this experience.
